Great ! It's funny, recently I've been exploring the same type of patterns [link] They appeared when piling copies of colored square tilings (here [link] are explanations in case of a hexagonal tiling).

Yes, I've been watching your recent work and blog. I immediately recognized the similarity of what we've been doing, but it's still difficult extrapolating how you have introduced some randomness and mixed forms.

I generally introduce randomness by mixing the pattern with perlin noise (see [link]) or other "random" patterns... This is done before the pattern is piled, so after piling the randomness appear at all scales. And the layer ability of Ultra Fractal also helps, though most of my images have between 2 and 4 layers only (some patient people use hundreds of them. :) ).
