With apologies to Isaac Asimov.

Not manipulated, except for a bit of level adjustment. A photo is displayed on the iThingy and then photographed.

"It is the thesis of this book that society can only be understood through a study of the messages and the communication facilities which belong to it; and that in the future development of these messages and communication facilities, messages between man and machines, between machines and man, and between machine and machine, are destined to play an ever-increasing part." Norbert Wiener, in "The Human Use of Human Beings, Cybernetics and Society", 1950 (second edition 1954)

"Cybernetics is the study of systems and processes that interact with themselves and produce themselves from themselves." Louis Kauffman

Second-order cybernetics
, also known as the cybernetics of cybernetics, investigates the construction of models of cybernetic systems. It investigates cybernetics with awareness that the investigators are part of the system, and of the importance of self-referentiality, self-organizing, and the subject-object problem.

Very clever.
Great concept.
Makes me think I'm stuck in a loop of technologies. Where will it end and whats the point of it all.
:iconmarkdow:
I like to think about how technology allows and encourages self-reflection. But still I don't have a good grasp of the point of it all.

~nbake777's image "Futher down the spiral..." [link] points to this essay "Accelerating Acceleration" [link] by R. Buckminster Fuller that comments on a similar theme of leveraging technology, in an optimistic light. Only a bit anachronistic, a future projection from several decades ago. Typically quirky for Fuller, I thought you'd enjoy it.

Thanks for the links Mark.
An enjoyably quirky read. I like his optimism, I like to believe there are some positives from new technologies.
He talked of energy slaves, but I often think that we become the slaves to new technologies. Most people seem to be hell bent on getting the latest whiz bang gizmo, rarely stopping to question the value of having it (GPS navigators for the car are really big here at the moment) . Sure, I consume like most, but my cynicism of consumerism and the economies/corporations that drive it stops me from blindly trying to keep up. I still don't own a mobile phone. So many young kids see it as an umbilical chord to social acceptance. Blogs aren't that much different. Why would anyone be interested in the minute of our every day lives? Self reflection can be incredibly boring to witness. Although, I think on the internet you can be anonymously honest, rude or liberal about what you need to share, maybe that freedom is why so many do it.
So I don't think there really is much point to a lot of it. Maybe fun to do, but fads come and go, while we unnecessarily burn up the finite resources on this wonderful planet we live on. Technology is going to be redundant without the energy to drive it. I think poor old 'Bucky' would be ashamed of our carbon footprint!
Some days I wonder whats the point of posting my photos and fiber art on dA, it too seems a bit self indulgent at times. But then I get to make friends and have great conversations with so many different people I would never have been able to do before.
Fun to do. :D
