Squeels live in a stratified colonies, with black Squeels swimming down and white Squeels swimming up. At the top random Squeels have a variety of lengths, and at the bottom crystal Squeels have equal length. Between they experience a phase transition, but overall the entropy of length and distribution is precisely conserved.
Squeels shorten when an adjacent Squeel bites them in two, and the biter simultaneously lengthens by fusing with the neighbor in front. See Squeel camouflage for their cryptic coloration pattern.
