Variations on a square tiling with three simple motifs, colored by connectivity. These are four ways the tiling can be completed.

These motifs, which can be combined in any way (randomly or ordered), result in patterns with two or more interwoven strands, but never a single strand.

Motif outllines, and more examples of these braids.

This, and your recent similar designs, remind me of a playset my nephew has, of interconnecting track pieces along which small, battery-operated, motorized vehicles drive. Each piece is square, and each side has zero or two tracks intersecting it. There are pieces where a track enters one side, goes in a half turn (or a turn and a half) and then exits that same side. And then there are pieces where two tracks enter one side, and then exit a different side, sometimes after crossing each other. I haven't seen any pieces that actually utilize more than two sides of the square. Anyway, it's possible to make one closed circuit that has "ends" where the vehicles turn around, or two "parallel" closed circuits, or one closed circuit that crosses itself an odd number of times and therefore has to make two "laps" before it actually repeats itself.
