--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ignore the following if you think analysis degrades wonder:
I like this minimalistic spiral because of its extraordinarily low algorithmic information (Kolmogorov complexity). I suspect the minimal algorithm is <500 bits; mine is way longer and messy due to experimenting with resampling, and I'm not too clever.
Any algorithm that contains an iterated rotation and scaling will contain these logarithmic spirals. This means all fractals with non-zero rotation have them. Because it can be constructed from a single rotation, an isotropic scaling rule with no translation, and 2 bits [0,1], it is a kind of primitive; a basis pattern.
It is also a nice tile: its toroidally matched edges result in curves that are continuous and everywhere differentiable, excepting the two singular points.
---------------------- There are no restrictions on use of this image. Claiming to be the originator or owner, explicitly or implicitly, is bad karma. A link (if appropriate), a note to dow@uoregon.edu, and credit are appreciated but not required.
Thanks too for the pointer to ImagersFractalDDs [link] I hadn't come across this yet. Alas, the rules discourage self-submission. Slightly ironic for a fractal mindset!
I think it's elegant, simply elegant! I'm fascinated by the analysis part but just about totally mystified. I took college calculus & just missed an A but I reeeaaalllyy have to work at the maths. I do like playing with fractals myself but would need time (& small words, lol) to "get" the math. Doesn't stop me from appreciating the esthetics of your fractal & the gist of what I could get from your analysis.

Thanks. And yes, I really do understand something about these! That's very satisfying, personally. Here's an incomplete blurb of mine about these shapes [link] with more info. Anyone can have that satisfaction.
Awww...the link isn't working.
But thanks for the friend listing!
Yesterday I actually got back onto apophysis and start messing around with it again. And I started coming out with some decent looking stuff. Hopefully I can continue to do so.
